Black Rock Coalition: History of Our Future
An explosive and joyful celebration of rock’s Black roots. The Black Rock Coalition (with special guests) created a sonic timeline honoring the Black pioneers who ushered rock and roll into the American collective consciousness.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll.
Raw, stripped-down style that creates a gritty love triangle between roots rock, blues and funk.

We miss him dearly, but he will always be with us. This year, BERNIE WORRELL, the Wizard of WOO, would have turned 75. So, we brought together a couple of his collaborators and fans to spin some funky tunes created, inspired, or influenced by our own dearly-departed, pioneering Funk Legend. DJ Logic, Vernon Reid, DJ Sugarfree BK and Starchild & The New Romantic hit the decks in a musical toast to the Man.
A sound that follows no traditional rules.

Shout out to LaFrae Sci, our musical director, and the killer orchestra she assembled for this beautiful performance in Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn—Shelley Nicole, Asa Lovechild, KiKi Hawkins, Jared Michael Nickerson, V. Jeffrey Smith, Marcus Machado, and Leon Gruenbaum. And thanks, too, to our outdoor connection, Letitia Guillory and NYC Parks who thought of us for this edition of “Movies Under the Stars.”
